Heysham Golf Club Lancashire
Heysham Golf Club is a parkland course situated near to the historic village of Heysham. This North Lancashire course is within easy reach of the M6 motorway via the Bay Gateway and near to the coastal resort of Morecambe and the city of Lancaster.
The Par 70 course has stunning views across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland Hills in the North, the Pennines to the East and across the Lune Estuary to Blackpool in the South.
Laid out in 1929 by the noted firm of Hawtree and J H Taylor under the supervision of Alec Herd, it is a fair course with all the greens visible for the second shot. The clubhouse was built in the 1930s and has been improved over the years to include all of the facilities today’s golfer expects. From the front of the clubhouse there is a panoramic view of the Lune Estuary and Lune Deeps while Blackpool Tower shows up prominently to the south.
From the elevated part of the course there are also magnificent views across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland Hills and the north Pennines. An unusual feature of Heysham is the number of par fours stretching more than 400 yards, of which there are seven. The club has an ongoing policy of tree planting and tee improvements and in the last few years alone around 4,000 trees and shrubs have been planted all adding to its picturesque nature. On the playing side, Heysham has a very strong junior and ladies section.
Testament to the quality of golf on offer is the fact that the club boasts the current Lancashire boys Under 16 Champion and the Ladies’ Lancashire Champion. Honorary member Gary Wolstenholme has won The Amateur Championship twice (1991, 2003) as well as many other amateur tournaments around the world. He has played on six Walker Cup teams and is the all-time points leader for the Great Britain and Ireland side.
