Situated just 6 miles from Ashbourne Golf Club, between the picturesque villages of Ilam and Thorpe and nestled within the Staffordshire and Derbyshire Peaks, the Izaak Walton Hotel is an AA 3 Star converted 17th Century Country House Hotel offering comfort, history and views of outstanding natural beauty.
Named after the famous author of “The Complete Angler”, the hotel is privately owned and located in an idyllic setting with modern facilities offering a unique combination of warm hospitality, tranquillity and tradition, whilst maintaining high standards of service.
The Izaak Walton Hotel has thirty eight spacious and well-appointed bedrooms with two room categories, Classic and Superior. Many rooms have had a sympathetic refurbishment and we plan to continue with these works as and when to maximise our guest’s comfort.
Classic Double/Twin Rooms with ensuite bathroom and shower. Many classic rooms have views of the Dovedale valley or the hotel gardens. All rooms have tea & coffee making facilities with coffee bags from The Little Coffee Bag company; complimentary bottled still water; Ringtons Biscuits; luxury refillable toiletries; Digital TV; alarm/radio.
Superior Rooms. In addition to the above, superior rooms are larger with small seating areas. Many rooms also have Spa baths. Most rooms have wonderful views of the Dovedale valley or the hotel gardens.
Three bedrooms have four poster beds which are perfect for a special occasion, and a further two are located in the original and quaint 17th century guesthouse which is steeped in history and still retains the oak beams and window seats.
All of the Hotel’s bedrooms are individually decorated to ensure your stay with us is memorable.

Our Haddon Restaurant is the pride of The Izaak Walton Hotel and is recommended as a top fine dining restaurant in Derbyshire having been awarded an AA Rosette. With breath taking views of the Dovedale Valley and creative interpretations on traditional dishes the Haddon Restaurant is the place to dine in style.
All dishes are created using locally sourced ingredients and the hotel believes it is important to support the local businesses around the Dovedale area.
Open to both Residents and Non-Residents alike, our Bar is very traditional with small low windows, beams and stonework. It has a warm and cosy atmosphere and is a lovely place to have a pre-dinner drink or relax with a good book. The Bar also serves breakfast, cream teas, light lunches, bar snacks, evening meals and Sunday lunches.
The room to the left of the bar is the Dovedale Lounge, which is often used for private functions or small meetings. When this is vacant please feel free to use this room too. It has a more a formal seating area for dining. The room also has a large plasma screen TV.
We have a wide selection of beverages available, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
Our 5 meeting rooms can accommodate between 6 and 30 delegates in a boardroom style layout, with our largest room able to seat up to 130 delegates for a conference, or guests for a banquet.
Our hotel also lends itself ideally to training sessions with a motivational aspect. The surrounding hills, valley and the River Dove are the perfect setting for team building exercises. Activities can be arranged at nearby venues (prices to be confirmed).
