Many years ago a golfing husband and wife were scouring the county of Suffolk for a golf club that would serve their needs for their retirement.
The criteria was quite simple for the couple that originally hailed from the home of golf in Scotland: pretty, friendly and challenging. The husband could not hold back his delight when he called his wife on the telephone after several weeks of hunting.
“I’ve found it!” he cried…and he certainly had!
A parkland course as pretty and challenging as you’ll find anywhere, combined with an atmosphere of friendliness that’s a sheer delight.
The River Rat runs through the middle of the course, adding that little bit extra to the 2nd and 5th holes, while the undulating Suffolk hills of the back nine provide some of the most scenic views that you will find anywhere in the county.
Stowmarket is a mature course, with a wide variety of trees that provides a wonderful spectrum of colour throughout the changing seasons.
Stowmarket is a course far enough away from the busy A14 not to inflict the constant drone of traffic, but close enough to offer easy access.
A course set amongst trees with an array of wildlife that makes one feel part of nature. In fact, if you miss a short putt on th 10th, the crows will join in with the mirth of your partners!
At 6107 yards, Stowmarket is a par 69 that is rarely beaten, even by the most accomplished of players.
It is challenging enough for the English Golf Union to designate it as a “Centre of Excellence” to use on a regular basis to develop and train the county’s best Junior Golfers.
You will no doubt be pleased to know that the couple had many years of golfing fun at the club, unlike them you need search no further…
