Set in 140 acres of prime land the Spalding Golf Club benefits from some excellent landscaping by its architects. It is an attractive, yet challenging, parkland course with water featuring on several holes. The signature hole the second of some 363 yards, although only short, requires an accurate drive over the elbow of the River Glen.
Standing on the tee the decision is how much to “cut” off with any misjudged shot usually ending with the ball in the water. The featured hole, the sixth, is a 200 yard par three, well protected at the front, that requires an accurate tee shot to avoid the mounds on either side.
The second shot to the tenth, 369 yards, with its three tier green, is deceptive, always take an extra club. Almost at the end of the round the seventeenth, 392 yards, usually played into the prevailing wind with out of bounds all the way down the left side and the need for a precise second shot is a good test of golfing nerve.
Well established trees bordering most of the fairways and strategically placed bunkers ensure you have to hit the ball straight to avoid being punished. Measuring 6527 yards off the whites, 6340 off the yellows ( both par 72 ) and 5890 off the reds, par 74 the course is a good test of golfing ability. A warm welcome awaits you in the Professionals shop and in the Clubhouse.
