Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club extends a warm and sincere welcome to golfers and non-golfers alike.
Stanton, from its foundation, has always encouraged families to participate, a principle which it considered an essential ingredient in forming a happy and sociable society. This has been its hallmark over the years and proudly remains the case today.
The Club was established on a cold and windy evening in March 1906 by two clergymen, an accountant, a doctor and a retired Post Office Official meeting in the Best Room of the Griffin Inn at Plumtree.
They were all keen golfers, but had no course on which to play when the owner of their former venue, Plumtree Golf Club, decided to exercise his shooting rights. Golf held enough hazards without the additional prospect of being shot.
Since those early days, Stanton has continued to develop and prosper into today’s popular and friendly club, with an interesting and scenic 18 hole parkland course. The original architect, Tom Williamson, who designed a number of masterpieces in the Midlands, left a supreme legacy at Stanton, demonstrating how golf and nature can blend harmoniously.
Although not long by modern-day standards, a challenge is offered to all abilities of golfer. The course has an enviable reputation of being in excellent condition throughout the year and in addition probably has the best manicured greens in the county.
The club facilities have been continually improved and upgraded over the last few years in order to satisfy the demands of a full membership, making it a popular venue for business, social events and visiting societies.
A memorable day out is assured, so why not come along and experience the delights that this gem in the South Notts countryside has to offer?
We look forward to welcoming you very soon.
