Since 1892, Newcastle United Golf Club has welcomed golfers to the moorland just a stone’s throw from the heart of the North East’s biggest city.

Today the club occupies a course on Nuns Moor, which opened in 1973 following its move from The Town Moor, and remains primarily a members’ club with visitors warmly welcomed to play the challenging moorland layout throughout the year, and visit the clubhouse and Golf and Gossip Shop.

The club remains true to its roots as Newcastle United Workmen’s Club – formed on June 4 1892 at a meeting in Lockhart’s Cocoa Rooms in Clayton Street – with great pride still taken in the warm welcome given to golfers of all ages and abilities.

Measuring 6,600 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, the course is a regular host of Northumberland County Golf Union events and matches. A formidable challenge in the height of summer, the moorland layout is defended by its tall rough; long par fours and fives; and undulating greens which continue to pose a stern test of golfing skill and serve as a proving ground for champions.
