Donnington Grove Golf Club Berkshire

Donnington Grove is considered to be one of the most challenging golf courses in Newbury. Set in 550 acres of prime Berkshire countryside, the course is set in a delightfully secluded position on the outskirts of Newbury. Overlooked by the historic Donnington Castle on one side and flanked by the River Lambourne on the other, its mixture of terrain, from classic woodland to ascending vantage points, provides an ideal setting for championship standard golf play. The Donnington course was designed by PGA member Dave Thomas, one of Britain’s foremost golf architects. The course was completed and first played in June 1993.

But it isn’t just the surroundings that mark Donnington Grove as one of the best Newbury golf courses. High standards of maintenance produce pitch perfect fairways and features, with fast and true greens that never disappoint. Having been built to USGA standards, you will not see any temporary greens or tees and with its excellent drainage the course is playable all year round.

Starting work in 1991 it was entrusted to Dave Thomas to create a championship standard golf course that harmonised with the surroundings. The result is an aesthetically faultless challenge that will appeal to golfers of all standards. The two nines are very different in character: The front nine undulates over higher grounds with stunning views over Newbury, whilst the back nine can be described as classic parkland, with an abundance of beautiful trees and water hazards that can unnerve the bravest.

Donnington Grove has held two European Pro Tours and hosted the Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open in 2004. In 2010 it was also the venue for the Trilby Tour Berkshire Championship, featured on Sky TV.
