St George’s Hill Golf Club Surrey
St George’s Hill, an Iron-Age Hill fort site, common land and eventually private land acquired by local developer WG Tarrant to build the St George’s Hill Estate. The focus of the Estate was a Golf Course designed by Harry S Colt, who had the vision to transform a planted forest into the special and memorable golf course that we know today.
The members, visitors and all who play the 27 hole complex all appreciate the special environment that was created nearly a century ago to provide ‘Country Living’ at its best.
The three 9 hole loops of golf, set around one of the very few purpose-built golf clubhouses, offer an almost unique combination when considered with its heathland setting.
Much has been written about the Course and Club since its early days, and even today the golf arbiters still agree that our inheritance as members and current custodians remains one of the finest inland golf courses accessible to many.
Quote, Frank Pennick, ‘Golfers Companion’: “One of Surrey’s most hilly and spectacular courses, in heavenly surroundings, but also designed on the soundest of lines which discard any element of fluke”.
The high quality facilities the Club has to offer, the Course, Clubhouse, the Professional’s Shop and tuition, all contribute to making a visit to St George’s Hill an experience that we hope will encourage a return visit. A warm welcome to all who visit St George’s Hill, and I hope you enjoy the experience and play well.
