Piltdown Golf Club East Sussex

Piltdown Golf Club in East Sussex is close to Uckfield, Haywards Heath and Lewes and was founded in 1904. The course was constructed on Piltdown Common near to the Piltdown Pond. It has no sand bunkers and is not particularly long, measuring just over 6000 yards from the medal tees. The terrain is fairly level but the narrow fairways, small greens and an abundance of heather and gorse make for challenging golf.
The Clubhouse was extensively enhanced in 2001 to provide extra lounge space, larger changing rooms and more shower accommodation. The Club’s Catering staff have built up a good reputation for providing a quality service which is available to visitors and members. The golf course was the subject of a thorough survey by European Golf Design in 2003.Their final report included these comments “Piltdown is not a modern corporate golf machine. There are no thoughts of hosting major regional, national or international tournaments.
It is members’ golf, it is companionship, it is comfortable, it is familiar and it is really rather good” Visitors, whether in Societies, groups or as individuals are all welcome at Piltdown. We think European Golf Design’s description of Piltdown is right. We invite you to try the Piltdown experience to see if you agree.
