The Chippenham Golf Club, founded in 1896, has gone through many changes in its history, none bigger than the recent opening of 7 new holes and the construction of a new clubhouse. This evolution has made Chippenham a great option for all golfers with three newly constructed holes being real feature holes and provide further interest to the layout. This is combined with a very friendly, welcoming and relaxed feel. The accompanying Clubhouse and practice facilities are first class and add to the experience.
Accuracy and patience are required to fashion a good score. The white tees measure in at 6414 yards while the reds measure 5818. The more established part of the course requires placement and thought, while the newer holes allow you to open the shoulders a bit more. The greens provide a good defence, being on the smaller side, but once you are on the surface you are guaranteed a smooth and consistent roll. The greens have always been highly regarded.
The course is gently undulating in places and the newest holes now offer stunning views over the Wiltshire countryside. Water hazards come into play on three of these holes. The drop hole Par 3, 13th is particularly memorable. With five par 3’s and five par 5’s there is plenty of interest in the layout. Wiltshire’s best kept secret is a secret no more.
