Situated on the cliff top near the town of Budleigh Salterton, at the western end of the Jurassic Coast, we are blessed with wonderful views along virtually the whole of this World Heritage Site. On a clear day the high point of the distant Portland Bill in Dorset is visible.
The club has around 800 members in total across all sections, and of these about 100 are single-figure players, which speaks volumes about the standard of player the course attracts.
At 6231 yards, it is not a long course. However, it does offer a fair and interesting test of golf, requiring accurate shots in order to score well. Thanks to its excellent drainage, the course is rarely closed due to rain, though obviously thunderstorms pose the same threat here as anywhere else! Temporary greens are also seldom used unless there’s an early morning frost. Occasionally, though, a mist rolls in from the Channel, and so checking the local weather forecast is advisable, particularly if travelling any distance to play here.
