Ellesborough Golf Club Buckinghamshire
In the heart of the Chiltern Hills, with stunning views over the Oxford plain and under the shadow of the Coombe Hill monument, lies one of the most beautiful courses in the area – Ellesborough Golf Club. The Chilterns have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Ellesborough certainly maintains the promise of that title.
Once part of the Chequers estate, boasting a long and illustrious history stretching back over more than 100 years, Ellesborough has enjoyed the patronage of Prime Ministers and statesmen. As part of the original lease agreement, the occupant of Chequers was to have the right to play the links. The first recipient of the privilege was David Lloyd-George and following that tradition Honorary Membership continues to be extended to the Prime Minister of the day, many of whom have taken the opportunity to play the course.
A chalk downland course, it enjoys excellent drainage, allowing for play on regular tees and greens all year round. The variety of holes on the gently undulating landscape offer a challenge to golfers of all levels, with greens that have long enjoyed a reputation as some of the finest for miles around. The beauty of the views draws many a visitor and the hospitality in the newly-refurbished clubhouse will finish a round of golf that brings players back time after time.
