The club features two 18-hole courses, the Old and the New, a 9-hole “Muntjac” pitch and putt course and a brand new Golf Academy which was opened in the autumn of 2013.
The 6,808-yard Old course was designed by the world-renowned golf course architect, Fred Hawtree, and was opened for play back in 1976. It meanders through mature parkland, featuring an abundance of different tree species, and comprises a delightful assortment of challenging par-3, tight par-4s and expansive par-5s.
Essendon’s Old course is a haven for a wide assortment of wild life and it is the same on the 6,938-yard New course, designed by the Landscape Design Company and opened in 1992.
The New course is instantly memorable because, at the behest of the former owners, it was designed with two greens on no less than 16 of its holes. Like the Old, it is lined by mature trees and features water on nine of its holes.
The new owners have ambitious plans to develop all the facilities at Essendon and part of that process involves gives the New course an extensive overhaul to bring it up to tournament standards.
