Gathurst Golf Club Lancashire
Gathurst Golf club is located very close to Jct 27 of the M6 motorway, an 18 hole parkland course with a variation of hole designs to challenge golfers of all abilities.
Work is continuous around the course, the new open ditch on the 11th hole was added recently, the 5th tee has been re-laid and raised, golfers will have an altered view as they survey the pond to the left and out of bounds to the right where the white stakes of the practice ground loom for the over cautious.
The first six holes were added in recent years and have now blended in well with the existing course, the 4th and 6th greens are only separated by a pond and when the gound is firm and if the ball is running, you may need to think twice about your shot when the pins are set close to the pond.
The course has memorable views and in particular when playing down to the green on the second hole where the verdant and pituresque backdrop is a sight to behold on any day.
Although the 15th, 16th and 18th holes run adjacent to the M6 motorway, its presence is hardly noticeable once you have left the 14th Green where it comes into view for the first and last time. The 14th green at Gathurst can be seen to the left of the M6 motorway when travelling north and around a mile from and approaching junction 27.
The 18th Hole is a long par 4, even longer in wet conditions, and a good second shot will land you on the green situated in front of the clubhouse and patio where afterwards, you can have a relaxing drink, either on the patio or in the friendly atmosphere of the bar.
