Set within the picturesque villages of West Ella and Kirk Ella, five times Open Champion James Braid created a magnificent test of golf based around the stunning 200-year-old Kirk Ella Hall.
The unique undulating land, which had been formed during centuries of agriculture and grazing, helped Braid to design a course that is appealing to golfers of all levels. The par 70 layout measures less that 6300 yards from the back tees, yet, despite recent innovations in club and ball technology, John Dockar’s course record of 64 has remained intact for nearly a quarter of a century.
The tight tree lined fairways punish any wayward drives and the classic Braid bunkering makes club selection difficult for approach shots. Even after a solid drive and precision approach, a par is not always guaranteed. The fast, subtle, undulating greens represent a challenge for even the best putters. Hull Golf Club is a course with a tough start, long finishes and offers spectacular views over the City of Hull, Humber Estuary and the magnificent Humber Bridge.
The 200-year-old Kirk Ella Hall is a truly stunning clubhouse – the envy of every course in the area. A grade II listed building, it has welcomed members and visitors alike since Hull Golf Club purchased the property in 1924. The clubhouse boasts recently refurbished locker rooms, snooker room, a comfortable lounge, a generously proportion dining room and a large patio area overlooking the 12th fairway. A true Yorkshire welcome is guaranteed before or after any round of golf, with home cooked food not to be missed.
The club’s steward caters for members and guests with equal pride. Hull Golf Clubs fish and chips are worth a visit alone, but catering can be tailored to meet your own requirements, whether it be a bacon roll after a round of golf or a five course a la carte meal for a private function.
