Market Harborough Golf Club has much to offer, both as a golfing challenge and a place to enjoy the company of golfers. Built on and around two significant hills, it offers fine views of the surrounding Leicestershire and Northamptonshire countryside as you face some challenging uphill, downhill and side-hill lies on the approach to testing greens.
Established more than 100 years ago, the course has been lengthened and improved over the decades, the most recent innovation being the addition of 12 new bunkers and the re-siting and refurbishment of others.
Don’t be fooled by the relative shortness of the course at a little over 6,000 yards – it will test the best of golfers, particularly when the wind is blowing. And don’t get over-confident if you start well, because there is a sting in its tale: the signature 16th, downhill all the way, trees to the right and with anything hit left finding thick rough or water; the short 17th, played over water and into the prevailing wind; and the dog-leg 18th played around water and with middle of the fairway bunkers to catch even a good looking shot.
