The original course consisted of nine holes which was later extended to fifteen and finally, in 1992, to its present eighteen. Whilst relatively short by today’s standards the course, with its tough terrain and sometimes strong winds, offers a stern test to all levels of golfer.
This is borne out by the fact that the amateur record stands at three under par and the professional record at seven under. On some holes where it is difficult to judge the pin placing, marker balls have been fixed to the flagsticks. A high position indicates the flag is at the back of the green and a low position indicates the flag is at the front.
The small greens ensure that accuracy is a main priority. Holly bushes are planted each side of the fairway on par fours, 125 yards from the centre of the greens. The courses hilltop position affords some stunning views of the surrounding area.
