Measuring 6,158 yards from the competition tees golfers of all abilities face a stiff but fair challenge at Willingdon. At all times of the year players will find a perfectly manicured course with slick greens that are the envy of many other clubs.

The unique layout of the course ensures that play can be commenced at either the 1st, 9th or 15th holes which are all conveniently located near to the clubhouse. Each hole on the course has its own memorable features, none more so than the course’s signature hole, the short par 3 5th, which has a row of railway sleepers encircling the green. Every one of the holes presents a challenge and the experienced golfer at Willingon knows that it is brains not brawn that will be needed to help unlock the secret of a low score.

At pat 69 the course appears relatively easy but many a good card has been ruined by underestimating the difficulty of the challenge, particularly on the par 3 holes. Because our course sits on chalk down-land we benefit greatly from the excellent drainage properties of this type of land and are rarely affected by surface water problems, no matter how heavy the rainfall. The protective ring of the South Downs also ensures that we do not suffer from the type of gale force winds that can afflict more traditional seaside courses.

Our green-keeper and his staff always strive to present a course in first class condition and in tune with the the natural beauty of the surroundings. A recent independent agronomist’s report gave high commendation to the excellent quality of our fairways and greens.
