Appleby Castle is situated just 15 miles from the English Lake District and deep in the heart of the Eden Valley, nestling alongside the meandering River Eden, just 3 miles from Appleby Golf Club.
This spectacular motte and bailey castle has been held by the Kings of England and Scotland and boasts one of the few remaining intact Norman keeps.

History tours of the Castle are held daily but advance booking is essential.

Appleby Castle owns the fishing rights on both sides of the River Eden immediately beneath the weir. This is prime fishing territory and Salmon, Trout and Grayling abound in this special stretch of river. Fishing rights are exclusively for our guests.
