Highbullen Hotel, Golf & Country Club Devon
Welcome to Highbullen County House Hotel, beautifully set in a richly wooded 200 acre parkland estate. The spectacular setting and range of facilities including one of the best restaurants in Devon, make this luxury country house hotel the ideal location for golf, tennis, functions, conferences, romantic weekend breaks, honeymoons and weddings.
The splendid Victorian Gothic architecture of the main house at Highbullen lends a tangible air of grandeur and generous hospitality to your stay.
The restaurants provide the social and gastronomic heart of the hotel and we have been accused of allowing too much emphasis to be placed on good food and fine wines, but then…..
Highbullen has 42 rooms and although accommodation is centered on the Main House, which has 12 rooms, the bulk of rooms are sited in the grounds at Home Farm, Whitehall and Rowcliffes annexes.
Only 100m from the Main House, Home Farm Annexe has 16 rooms arranged as doubles and twins.
Whitehall Annexe, previously a farm with outbuildings set in a country style garden, is a level 400 metres away from the Main House.
The converted barn has 5 bedrooms let as hotel rooms. The Farmhouse, surrounded by the golf course, is let on a weekly self-catering basis and guests are welcome to use all the facilities of the hotel at non-resident rates.
Rowcliffes Annexe, 250 metres downhill from Home Farm, has 6 bedrooms and its own heated open-air pool with panoramic views.
Highbullen Golf & Country Club’s superb award winning golf course, set in richly wooded parkland, boasts breathtaking views towards the Devon landscapes of Dartmoor and Exmoor . It’s easy-walking 5,570 yards, par-68 provides an excellent test of golf for the accomplished player without creating an unfair or unrewarding challenge for the novice. The course is designed to make you think about the club selection and shot execution of each golf stroke, rather than just a requirement to hit huge distances. The well-placed greens invite you to shoot for the pin and will hold a well-flighted ball, while the bunkering is visually impressive with mounding and contouring that blends in nicely with the natural surroundings. Water comes into play on quite a few holes, especially the par threes, and this adds to the challenge resulting in a wonderfully rewarding golfing experience.
If the weather turns foul, all is not lost for the golf enthusiast, as, with the introduction of The Pavilion at Highbullen, a Smart Golf simulator and indoor putting green have been made available. With a new Pro Shop, Locker Room, dedicated shower and changing rooms, Spike Bar and lounge area, golfers are catered for in a way few other golf clubs in the South West can match.
Reciprocal links with Royal North Devon (founded in 1864, it is the oldest course in England and Wales), and Saunton Sands Golf Club (36 holes voted in the top 100 courses in Golf World) means that some of the best golf courses in the UK are available to guests staying at Highbullen Hotel at advantageous rates.
