The Kingsnowes Hotel Scottish Borders

The Kingsknowes Scottish Hotel is an idyllic and beautiful Scots Baronial Mansion with idiosyncratic and early Renaissance detailing.

It was built in 1869 for Adam Lees Cochrane, a local Textile mill owner. The hotel has splendid and well tended gardens, abundant parking and is only a 15 minute walk from the town centre. 

The Kingsknowes is set in the heart of the romantic borderland and overlooks Abbotsford – which is Sir Walter Scott’s ancestral home, the River Tweed (famous salmon river) and the “vibrant” Eildon hills.

It is an ideal base whether you wish to tour the area and explore the border Abbeys and famous houses, relax and enjoy our ambient atmosphere, or enjoy golf or some other sporting activity.

We are situated only 33 miles south of Edinburgh on the A7.
