The Marcliffe was the host hotel for the 2 teams in the 2011 Walker Cup which included Speith, Cantlay, English, Henley and Uihlein from the US, it was also the host hotel for the British Senior Open in 2005 and for the Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen in 2014. Nicklaus, Watson, Player, Poulter, Jiménez, Michelson, Fowler and many others have all stayed here over the years.
